TCG Interview #7: Cyber Power

I spoke with the creator of Cyber Power. Here are his answers to my questions:

Q: Please describe your TCG!

A: Cyber Power is a grid based, fast paced, action tcg meant for fun as well as high level competitive play.

Q: What inspired you to create a TCG?

A: Growing up I played a few tcgs and though I enjoyed them there was always certain things I didn’t like or thought was unfair like mana flood and mana screw also ftk and otk in and amount of text to read in yugioh and Pokémon just wasn’t quite competitive enough for me.

Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid?

A: I grew up playing the big 3, Pokémon, magic and yugioh as well as Naruto, duel masters, digimon and the original dragon ball z card game. I also played board games as well like heroscape and the Naruto board game and others

Q: What sets Cyber Power apart from other TCGs?

A: Cyber Power is unique as it’s a tcg that embraces having a three dimensional aspect to the game with the standees mini card inserts and 3D printed mini card inserts. It really adds so much to the gaming experience.

Q: How long have you been working on the game?

A: I’ve had a couple of other tcgs I worked on but none really went anywhere outside of the development stage so I used aspects of those games to help develop Cyber Power and  I’ve been working on Cyber Power for about 8 months now.

Q: How did you come up with the name Cyber Power?

A:The name “Power” is in all of my other games I’ve made so that part was easy and I already knew that this game was going to involve the “Cyber” space so it all came together pretty well though it was POWER CYBER its now CYBER POWER so just a word swap to help it sound a little better.

Q: When will the game be officially released?

A: I’m aiming for a 2023 release or early 2024. Things won’t be rushed so if it takes a little longer to add things like translations to other languages, on our website we plan to have up upon release, of our cards and rules so players from foreign countries may not have the option to purchase cards in their native languages (yet) will still be able to experience this tcbg.

Q: What are your future plans for Cyber Power?

A: The future for CYBER POWER is bright and there is so much we have planned like a huge online remote dueling platform where players from all over the U.S. and potentially the world can have access to battling each other in tournaments or just for fun. Imagine topping at a tournament in Ohio and finding out you might get to remote duel other top players from a tournament in Florida the same exact day for a chance to win extra prizes!

Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to make their own TCG?

A: My advice for anyone trying to make a TCG would be to always make progress. Do something everyday to help make steps toward finishing your game, even if all you do is name a character that day. Moving an inch everyday will eventually get you somewhere, though I do advice to move a little quicker but there is nothing wrong with taking a little break if you get burned out. Just remember good things come to those who wait but not to those who wait to late. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Another topic would be taking inspiration from other games is fine but try to put your own twist on things and don’t steal, whether that be artwork or anything the tcg community loves seeing fun and unique artwork and game mechanics.  Lastly, it is important to get opinions from others but at the end of the day it’s your game so just believe in yourself and you’ll make the best game you can.

TCG Interview #74: Ward

I spoke to the creators of WARD! Here are their answers to my questions:  Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Ward is a trading card game that blends aspects from other popular TCGs like Pokemon, Yugioh, and Magic: The Gathering, but adds a Dungeons and Dragons style, dice rolling, battle system. We then simplified all aspects/systems so anyone can learn how to play with ease. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: Ward was inspired by creator Joe Casey when he decided to buy a few packs of a new card game (We will not say which). He had always loved card games of any type, Pokemon, Yugioh, Magic, Cribbage, Poker, and so many more. He brought the packs home, opened them up and read the rules in order to play it. For several hours, he and another future Ward associate, could not figure out the rules or general layout of playing the game. YouTube videos did not explain it well either. Eventually, they gave up and moved on. The idea for Ward was not created on this ...
