TCG Interview #10: Dicetics

I spoke with the creator of Dicetics- here are his answers to my questions:

Q: Please describe your trading card game!

A: Dicetics is a very simple and casual game. Where players build a deck with their favorite cards to battle it out with friends. During battle between creature cards, players rolled dice to determine the winner. This adds an element of luck into the gameplay. The weakest card in the game will have a small chance to win a battle with the strongest card in the game. Each player's goal is therefore to increase their probability of winning by using spell’s effects or equipment cards to increase their power or decrease their opponent's power. This idea is to make the game fun for all players. Winning a game is always fun. But when you are losing it is not always fun. Because of the element of luck in the game the player who is losing will always have a chance to make an epic comeback.

Q: What inspired you to create a TCG?

A: My childhood was filled with collecting TCG, such as Yugioh, Pokemon, Digimon, Duel Masters, Zatch Bell, Chaotic, and Magic in the later years. As an adult who wants to get back into the hobbies, I find it difficult to have fun with these games anymore because they have changed overtime. I am probably in the minority, but I loved the feel of playground Yugioh or casual Yugioh. So I wanted to make a game specifically for casual players. And when Metazoo came out, I realized that it was possible to make a new TCG that people enjoy.

Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid?

A: Yugioh, Pokemon, Digimon, Duel Masters, Zatch Bell, Chaotic, and Magic in the later years. Yugioh was the most played, Pokemon was more for collecting.

Q: What sets Dicetics apart from other TCGs?

A: I think the dice rolling mechanic adds a bit more fun and excitement to the gameplay. Plus the focus on casual gameplay. I know it will be impossible to stop a Meta game from forming. But I still want that player who builds a deck out of his/her favorite card to still have a chance of winning and most importantly have fun playing the game. Even if they are facing down a top tier meta deck.

Q: How long have you been working on the game?

A: I have been working on the game for about a year now. But I have had the idea for the last 5 years and I have been adjusting the rules for those years, always finding a problem or an issue.

Q: What is your illustration process like?

A: I combined two words together. The word “dice” for the dice rolling mechanic and the word “tactics” for the strategy aspect of the game.

Q: How did you come up with the name Dicetics?

A: I used common fantasy creatures and I tried to make them at first. And if my artwork is not good enough, I then commissioned a pixel artist to redo it.

Q: When will the game be officially released?

A: I am hoping to get it to kickstarter for early or mid 2023.

Q: What are your future plans for Dicetics?

A: So the plan is to release the kickstarter cards. Then print off the 1st edition base set for convention and lgs. And design a mini set based on Halloween themes. And then keep making sets afterward. And also improve the artwork over time. Hired/Commissioned more people for the artwork and increased the canvas size over time. Right now it is 48x48. But in the future set, I am hoping the artwork will be 240x240 or 480x480 given the artwork more details.

Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to make their own TCG?

A: Listen to feedback. Don’t be afraid to change the rules to improve gameplay.

TCG Interview #90: Ward (Part 2)

I did a follow-up interview with Ward TCG, here are their answers to my questions! Q:  What’s new with Ward TCG since our previous interview? A: A lot has happened in the year since our last interview. Ward has hosted a dozen tournaments with great turnouts, lots of action, and many new players.    We have attended several conventions with the most recent being the HUGE Midwest gaming Classic in Milwaukee WI. The original actors from resident Evil 1 video game hung out at our booth for a while and were enamored with Ward.    We are in about 2 dozen stores, including a partnership with a Midwest convenience store chain “Luckey Seven”. They fell in love with Ward and have begun to spread it in their 37 stores across the Midwest.    We were invited to be on several interviews with ABC News. They also loved Ward and wanted to help promote an upcoming tournament we had in Minneapolis MN at that time. Being on Live TV was very nerve racking. We were also hosted by PBS for a short segment cal

I spoke with the creator of Neo Gambit- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: NeoGambit is a fast paced and easy to play deck building combat TCG. Q: What inspired you to create a TCG? A: This came from a dream. I woke up from a nap and had dreamt of this fun TCG, reminded me of how much fun I had as a kid play card games. As a kid I spent hours playing games, but mostly alone, a lot of rules and effects for cards were off putting to others around me. So from my dream, NeoGambit was birthed. A simple fun TCG that literally anyone can play. Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: My earliest memories are intertwined with TCGs, there wasn’t a moment in my childhood that I didn’t collect cards. Yugioh and Pokémon have been in my life as long as I can remember. I collected both Pokémon and yugioh for over 15 years. I also collected other TCGs over the years, my favorite being chaotic, I’d say that’s where most inspiration for the gam
