I spoke with the creator of Akasha- here are their answers to my questions:
Q: Please describe your trading card game!
A: AkashaCCG is an RPG collectible card game and is one of its very first kind. Each player gets to build up their character with different artifacts cards that give you powers and you get to battle it out with one another to determine the fate of different worlds.
Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG?
A: I grew up watching Yugioh as a kid and was a big inspiration to the creation of this card game. I have always loved designing games, even if it was just a game of tag. I often enjoy making games and seeing how people react to the game. I've also been a gamer my whole life and I've abstracted a lot of working models from different games into the game as well.
Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid?
A: It has got to be Yugioh! It was one of the first trading card game that I started playing. I collectible pokemon cards but never really dug into the playing aspect of it. I also played a little bit of Magic the Gathering.
Q: What sets Akasha apart from other TCGs?
A: AkashaCCG is a multi player RPG collectible card game. You really have the option of designing your character to be super over powered and battle against 2 other players solo. You really have the choice! It's one of its very first kind where you can build your deck to work with your teammates deck, having a game plan where multiple decks are working together side by side.
Q: How did you come up with the name Akasha?
A: Through the game's entire life, it has gone through so many names. I finally settled with Akasha because it sets the stage for what the characters are doing in the story. It's about becoming aware of who you truly are "Akasha" the energy that permeates throughout the entire universe and beyond. Characters learn how to work with akasha to become masters of matter, energy and void itself. Also Akasha is the name of the main character :)
Q: How long have you been working on the game?
A: I've lost count on how many years. It's gotta be over 10+ years since it started it's development. I still remember the first image I ever did for it and it was on paint, on a PC that was running on windows 2000. The game has gone through a lot of changes but it's in it's best form as of right now.
Q: What is the illustration/design process like?
A: As an artist, I've always love illustrating and designing since I was a little kid. I mostly work in software tools now and only do traditional art as a hobby. My design process comes from my love for science and sci-fi. I grew up watching a lot of science and nature documentaries so most of my designs draw from real world mechanism.
Q: What are your future plans for Akasha?
A: My plans are that I hope a lot of other people find the game fun and exciting to play. I would love it if the game brought a lot of joy into people's life. From there we can incorporate it into whatever people want from it.
Q: Will you be at any upcoming conventions?
A: Nothing in the horizons but if the demand is there, I would love to get it to as many conventions as possible.
Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to make their own TCG?
A: My advice would be that, Start out with a broad idea and don't worry about how it will work because in the process of creating it. You'll be surprised with the ideas and solutions you find to solve those problems if you can see the overall idea.. I just wanted to say Thank you to tradingcardgirl for this interview! It's been a pleasure!
