TCG Interview #33: Wrath Of Cores

I spoke with Chris, the creator of Wrath Of Cores- here are his answers to my questions:

Q: Please describe your trading card game!
A: Wrath of Cores 2 is a fantasy Homemade TCG where players defend their Cores whilst trying to destroy the enemy Core! Cards mostly consist of Units which fall under 3 sub-types: Assault, Reinforce and Defensive. Each have their own specific location on the play area and each do their own thing so players need to be on their toes and think strategically! Other cards include Actions, Wonders, Weather, Response and Battle types!, Wrath of Cores 2 is a newer improvement to the original game which has seen improvements in game speed and simplicity so it's very easy to play!

Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG?
A: Me and my brother both played alot of Magic growing up, in our later years we started going to tournaments and basically got bored with the Meta Decks (there was also other reasons too), but when bored in work one day I started thinking how I could create a game that could be "better and simpler" than MTG so I started creating WoC. In 2016 I created my channel and at the same time Chaos Galaxy only had a handful of followers so I messaged him on YouTube (yes, YouTube had a messenger!) And we've been friends ever since.

Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid?
A: Magic the gathering when growing up and Final Fantasy in my later years.

Q: What sets Wrath Of Cores apart from other TCGs?
A: The gameplay area is very unique, where you must carefully place specific unit types in their own a slot-type around your Core, players can use Weather cards which can affect static variables in play (until another player 'changes' the weather with another!) And the card interface has been modified to create a super modern/sleek look yet keeping its simple design for ease of understanding. Each player I have taught grasped the rules within their very first game and the involvement of dice rolls (used to see if your units Hit or Miss in battle) adds a great RnG element as some enemy units can counter attack!

Q: How did you come up with the name Wrath Of Cores?
A: I honestly can't remember! It's been a while lol! Cores is obviously related to each players "Core" which you must try and destroy, and the original game had so many different types of Cores but a deck can only contain 1 specifically so it was a battle for the better Core/Deck combinations!

Q: How long have you been working on the game?
A: The YouTube channel was put up in 2016, but I had initial ideas ready later 2015. WoC1 was 5 years, woc2 is just over a year but has only recently just been released!

Q: What is the illustration/design process like?
A: The card art is all done hand drawn myself (unless I ask for a Collab) yet the UI and card boxes are done digitally so it's a nice mixture of creativity and simplicity.

Q: What are your future plans for Wrath Of Cores?
A: At the moment I am keeping the game under its traditional HTCG status, there are no plans for Kickstarter or Mass production so the only way to get a copy is via Gamecrafter or Myself if in the UK. WoC2 still had loads of potential yet due to the way it releases sets (like an LCG), so the next plans are to release more cards, sets, filler sets and get the game on Untap, followed by online tournaments and live streams :)

Q: Will you be at any upcoming conventions?
A: No, however, I've only ever taken my game to my LGS. I would at some point like to Collab a smaller UK convention with AfroAchibiChamps as we attend the same venues :)

Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to make their own TCG?
A: Just go with the flow! It doesn't matter about how your cards look as it will always improve over time! There's alot of traction on YouTube for people who still draw and cut-out their cards on pen and paper so do not feel like you have to have fancy digital art and/or borders!

TCG Interview #90: Ward (Part 2)

I did a follow-up interview with Ward TCG, here are their answers to my questions! Q:  What’s new with Ward TCG since our previous interview? A: A lot has happened in the year since our last interview. Ward has hosted a dozen tournaments with great turnouts, lots of action, and many new players.    We have attended several conventions with the most recent being the HUGE Midwest gaming Classic in Milwaukee WI. The original actors from resident Evil 1 video game hung out at our booth for a while and were enamored with Ward.    We are in about 2 dozen stores, including a partnership with a Midwest convenience store chain “Luckey Seven”. They fell in love with Ward and have begun to spread it in their 37 stores across the Midwest.    We were invited to be on several interviews with ABC News. They also loved Ward and wanted to help promote an upcoming tournament we had in Minneapolis MN at that time. Being on Live TV was very nerve racking. We were also hosted by PBS for a short segment cal

TCG Interview #12: Neo Gambit

I spoke with the creator of Neo Gambit- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: NeoGambit is a fast paced and easy to play deck building combat TCG. Q: What inspired you to create a TCG? A: This came from a dream. I woke up from a nap and had dreamt of this fun TCG, reminded me of how much fun I had as a kid play card games. As a kid I spent hours playing games, but mostly alone, a lot of rules and effects for cards were off putting to others around me. So from my dream, NeoGambit was birthed. A simple fun TCG that literally anyone can play. Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: My earliest memories are intertwined with TCGs, there wasn’t a moment in my childhood that I didn’t collect cards. Yugioh and Pokémon have been in my life as long as I can remember. I collected both Pokémon and yugioh for over 15 years. I also collected other TCGs over the years, my favorite being chaotic, I’d say that’s where most inspiration for the gam

I spoke with the creator of Nexvs- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A:  Nexvs Card Game is a two-player game designed to be compact, portable and fast paced but at the same time holds enough  strategic depth to have great games every time! In this game you will only need your 50-card deck, no extra deck, counters   or dice. The game board is easy to catch up and you can learn the rules in no time! With a space fantasy theme, through  Nexvs we will be able to explore many worlds, stories and characters!   Q: What inspired you to create a TCG? A: I've always liked to imagine sci-fi and fantasy stories since I was younger, so I began writing my own stories for fun!  Eventually I wanted to tell those stories through comics and games, but inside me there was a hidden passion for card  games that I didn't know about! My first inspiration was probably Digimon, but the 1999 card game through Digimon Tamers.  I wanted to make them just tr
