TCG Interview #44: Yokaishi

I spoke with the creator of Yokaishi- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Yokaishi TCG is a 1 v 1 creature battling game. Both players use spirits, demons and gods from Japanese folklore and mythology known as Yokai. Build your deck and skillfully use the power of your Yokai to gain an advantage over your opponent and obtain victory. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: Well, I went through several different ideas before landing on creating Yokaishi TCG. In 2020 at the start of the lockdown I had planned to use that time to sit and create things. At first I intended on getting back to making comics because that's what I've been working on for the last 10+ years but once I got down to business I realized that I didn't feel like working on my comics. So I thought maybe I can make a game, a video game. I've made a rpg before using rpg maker so I wanted to try making a different kind of game. Under the assumption

TCG Interview #43: Nightmares

I spoke  with  the creator of Nightmares- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Nightmares is a dark fantasy/horror themed digital collectible card game. It takes place in a reality similar to our own where you and your opponent are both people who have a tendency to meddle with darker things. You’ve managed to open rifts into other realities, called Realms. You can cast spells and curses using the magic that exists in the realm, and call forth the nightmarish creatures that live in the realm to attack your opponent. The more you channel from the realm however the closer you move towards the brink of insanity. The game is a race to kill your opponent before the realm takes your sanity completely. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: I’ve played TCGs all throughout my life, they’ve always been my game of choice. Growing up I always wanted to create my own. I’m a software engineer in my day job, and with the advent of games like

TCG Interview #42: Super Illoginauts

I spoke with the creator of Super Illoginauts, here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Super Illoginauts is a cartoony, creature based card game that has equal parts strategy and luck. It includes a variety of mechanics, including dice rolling, resources, timed effects, and more! Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: I have always been a huge fan of creating games ever since I was a kid. Super Illoginauts started out as a hand-drawn game on blank cards from Amazon. I stumbled upon the homemade TCG community and found that Super Illoginauts could be so much more. Learning about all the HMTCGs that are out there inspired me to take a stab at my own creation.  Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: The big one was Pokemon! I am still a HUGE fan of everything Pokemon, and it has influenced Super Illoginiauts quite a bit. I also played a good amount of Yu-Gi-Oh, but fell off that boat as it got more and more complicated. I a

ECG Interview #1: Discovery

I spoke with the creator of Discovery- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your card game! A: Discovery the Expandable Card Game is a 1v1 fantasy dueling card game with some really unique twists to make it feel distinct. For example, our resource system is tied directly into deckbuilding, and exists independently of your deck, with a smaller cap on how much Energy players have each turn, while also building toward an additional, powerful effect when you've reached the maximum limit. The artwork to accompany this system is also amazing, featuring a single monument, scene or vista that's revealed turn by turn, completing the image when your Energy cap has been reached. Q: What inspired you to create a card game? A: I'm an avid player of tabletop roleplaying games, and designing encounters or puzzles for my players has always interested me. When I played other card games competitively, I loved theorising about potential rule changes, game modes or cards

TCG Interview #41: Black Saber

I spoke with the creator of Black Saber- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: To me, Black Saber is more than just a card game, it's an amalgamation of pure passion. The game is my a way of telling a story that has been developing for more than a decade. I tried to take story telling and strategic gameplay and mash them together to create a unique experience. Black Saber is set in a fantasy world dominated by evil organizations, heroic rebels and fearless warriors. Everywhere you go, there is more lore to be discovered. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: It was a combination of things. I started my TCG creators journey a couple of months into the Covid pandemic, I wanted to learn and experience new things but was limited because of it. Then came around Inktober, a challenge where artists hone their skills by creating art every single day in the month of October. I decided to try it out as well but with a personal theme, I

A: MonTac TCG is a trading card game where players roll a die at the start of their turn to decide what cards they can play. The game allows players to play around the luck aspect without taking away from the skill of dealing with an unlucky roll. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: Insipration came from growing up in a household where most card games were banned and the rest being too complicated for those who lived with us were to join in. We realised there had to be away for a traditional trading card game to be family friendly and player friendly without losingwhat makes it skillful. From that point, MonTac was born. Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: I started off as a Yugioh Player however towards High School I had a lot more fun playing Cardfight Vanguard. Q: What sets MonTac apart from other TCGs? A: MonTac is a family friendly
