TCG Interview #45: Monster's Glare

I spoke with the creator of Monster's Glare- here are his answers to my questions:

Q: Please describe your trading card game!

A: Monster’s Glare is a toon-styled trading card game that brings Glare Monsters to life! Two players battle head to head until one player collects their opponent’s Glare Tokens.

Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG?

I grew up in the era of the titans TCG. I always loved trading cards and even joked about creating my own game someday.  During the pandemic, I taught myself how to draw and challenged myself to draw a monster. The first monster I drew was Tumly. I put his eyes at the top of his head; I knew I had something unique: the birth of Monster’s Glare.

Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid?

A: Wow… I probably should’ve read all the questions first, haha To double down on what I said in the last question; I grew up a massive fan of Pokemon and Yugioh. I went to Books-A-Million every Saturday to YuGiOh tournaments to play and trade. I had an impressive Pokemon collection too… Until my box of cards was stolen (tragic, right? lol). I even vaguely remember collecting an obscure game called Duel Masters… I have to google to see if that was a dream or not, haha

Q: What sets Monster's Glare apart from other TCGs?

A: Two words… GLARE MONSTERS! Our unique monster design will be a staple in the TCG world. No game has the monster’s eyes detached from their heads.

Q: How did you come up with the name Monster's Glare?

A: When you look at the glare in the Monster’s eyes, it will tell you the monster's power level.

Q: How long have you been working on the game?

A: About a year and a half at this point.

Q: What is the illustration/design process like?

A: It started as me opening up my iPad and just imagining. I don’t like to think too hard when making monsters; I just want to have fun. So I imagine myself being like a child with crayons, just creating with no limits. I now work with a couple of artists and share visions for monsters to come up with fun and exciting designs.

Q: What are your future plans for Monster's Glare?

A: Kickstarter launches on April 1st. Beyond Kickstarter, we just want to spread the word about the game. The ultimate goal is to have Monster’s Glare in stores nationwide. In addition, we have a secondary version of Monster’s Glare called “SELFIE PARTY, " a family-style way to play the game. It has Glare Monsters, FX Cards, and rules that will have any party laughing and playing for hours. This game will release with the Kickstarter set.

Q: Will you be at any upcoming conventions?

We honestly play cons by ear. We typically decide to attend cons within a month of the con. We are considering going to TCG Con in Indy, but we will determine a few days before the con. lol

Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to make their own TCG?

A: Never stop creating. There are days when you feel like you are not progressing, and that’s okay; just don’t stop. Also, not all advice is good advice for your game. Some people will impose their ideas on your game and want you to make changes to accommodate them, but always remember. It is YOUR game at the end of the day. I accept all feedback but pick and choose which tidbits to implement. Lastly, get active with the TCG community. Make friends before fans. If you are genuine and create something, good people will enjoy it. It’s not all about money. Money will come if you put in the work, so have fun and build that game!!

I spoke with the creator of Neo Gambit- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: NeoGambit is a fast paced and easy to play deck building combat TCG. Q: What inspired you to create a TCG? A: This came from a dream. I woke up from a nap and had dreamt of this fun TCG, reminded me of how much fun I had as a kid play card games. A simple fun TCG that literally anyone can play. Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: My earliest memories are intertwined with TCGs, there wasn’t a moment in my childhood that I didn’t collect cards. Yugioh and Pokémon have been in my life as long as I can remember. TCG Interview #90: Ward (Part 2)

I did a follow-up interview with Ward TCG, here are their answers to my questions! Q:  What’s new with Ward TCG since our previous interview? A: A lot has happened in the year since our last interview. Ward has hosted a dozen tournaments with great turnouts, lots of action, and many new players.    We have attended several conventions with the most recent being the HUGE Midwest gaming Classic in Milwaukee WI. The original actors from resident Evil 1 video game hung out at our booth for a while and were enamored with Ward.    We are in about 2 dozen stores, including a partnership with a Midwest convenience store chain “Luckey Seven”. They fell in love with Ward and have begun to spread it in their 37 stores across the Midwest.    We were invited to be on several interviews with ABC News. They also loved Ward and wanted to help promote an upcoming tournament we had in Minneapolis MN at that time. Being on Live TV was very nerve racking. We were also hos...
