TCG Interview #57: Creatures of Exo

I spoke with the creator of Creatures of Exo! Here are his answers to my questions:

Q: Please describe your trading card game!
The objective of the game is to reduce your opponent’s Leader’s Life Points to zero. This is achieved by playing various cards such as Creatures, Evolutions, Vice Leaders, and Tactics, and using different zones, including the Field, Occultic Space, and Aether. The game has its unique way of playing your cards and managing resources. For more details on the game mechanics, check out this video made by the youtuber "Arconte Del Crogiolo" with English subtitles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eU-0EU2_5Cg&t=1s

Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG?
A: Creatures of Exo is a combination of various TCGs, along with some original ideas. The best part is how the resources work. I wanted to create something that was 1vs1 competitive and smooth like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic, but with its own unique way of managing resources, as many TCGs have copies of Magic when it comes to Mana. I love tcgs, always played since I was a kid, and I always drew cards of monsters and pokemon on paper in my childhood for fun.

Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid?
A: I have been playing games since I was a kid, collecting pokemon cards and starting to play with Yu-Gi-Oh and Duel Masters. Then, I played Magic, Hearthstone, and Force of Will for a few years.

Q: What sets Creatures of Exo apart from other TCGs?
A: Whoops I replied before to this one, I think its own unique way of managing resources to play cards.

Q: How did you come up with the name Creatures of Exo?
A: Exo. is Exodus, a videogame I created 5-6 years ago on rpgmaker, with traditional drawings that I did with pencils, and my own music (my artist name for the music is Nel Labirinto) still available on exodusgioco.wordpress.com where your choices affect the story. a lot of Creatures of Exo's monsters are from Exodus, with a re-style of drawings. Also part of the lore wrote on discord is coming from Exodus Story.

Q: How long have you been working on the game?
A: Actually I've been working on Creatures of Exo for 3 years, it's a lot of work done by 1 person, from the graphics, to the drawings, game design, etc... it's all by myself in free time.

Q: What is the illustration/design process like?
A: The first expansions were totally drawn by myself sometimes in traditional but mostly in digital on Clip Studio Paint, and sometimes a few digital artist friends did some illustrations (like Notafiumi, Leus356 and Artlunary). Actually I'm using different AI (midjourney, stable diffusion, etc...) as a tool, were I submit my sketches and original artworks, elaborate by AI and then I draw on the final product a lot of hours again to create an unique piece and fix the nosense generated by AI such as bad faces, hands, etc...

Q: What are your future plans for Creatures of Exo?
A: Actually it's already a revamp version, with a better graphic layout and detailed artworks, it is already playable on Tabletop Simulator for free, I'm planning to expand this new version of Creatures of Exo for the next kickstarter campaign. This time will be printed by WJPC, to have a better quality and support.

Q: Will you be at any upcoming conventions?
A: I'll be probably in some local conventions like ComoFun here in Italy and some other minor events.

Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to make their own TCG?
A: making a TCG it is a process that requires a lot of time and money unless you do the whole work by yourself like I did, in that case require just 3x more time :D. I think the best part to make it unique is create a mechanic that is not present in other tcgs, like I did for the resources system. To make the personality of your TCG, then is up to you create your own graphic design. Creating the community for your tcg is probably the hardest part, I'm still trying to make it since 3 years.

I spoke with the creator of Neo Gambit- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: NeoGambit is a fast paced and easy to play deck building combat TCG. Q: What inspired you to create a TCG? A: This came from a dream. I woke up from a nap and had dreamt of this fun TCG, reminded me of how much fun I had as a kid play card games. A simple fun TCG that literally anyone can play. Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: My earliest memories are intertwined with TCGs, there wasn’t a moment in my childhood that I didn’t collect cards. Yugioh and Pokémon have been in my life as long as I can remember. TCG Interview #90: Ward (Part 2)

I did a follow-up interview with Ward TCG, here are their answers to my questions! Q:  What’s new with Ward TCG since our previous interview? A: A lot has happened in the year since our last interview. Ward has hosted a dozen tournaments with great turnouts, lots of action, and many new players.    We have attended several conventions with the most recent being the HUGE Midwest gaming Classic in Milwaukee WI. The original actors from resident Evil 1 video game hung out at our booth for a while and were enamored with Ward.    We are in about 2 dozen stores, including a partnership with a Midwest convenience store chain “Luckey Seven”. They fell in love with Ward and have begun to spread it in their 37 stores across the Midwest.    We were invited to be on several interviews with ABC News. They also loved Ward and wanted to help promote an upcoming tournament we had in Minneapolis MN at that time. Being on Live TV was very nerve racking. We were also hos...
