TCG Interview #65: Rise

I spoke with the creator of Rise! Here are his answers to my questions:

Q: Please describe your trading card game!
A: Rise is a battle between Summoners in an organic, fantasy-themed game, utilizing ethereal Doors to access a multiverse of Imminent spells, Incantations, and Creatures. It plays similar to games like Magic the Gathering, Metazoo, and Flesh and Blood. It can be played preconstructed, constructed, and/or draft style from solo up to as many players as you like...each player added will increase the time of the game. :) Rise has a fairly low entry threshold with regard to complexity, but the game can ramp to very complex for those Johnny players who love the super combo possibilities.

Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG?
A: Francois excelled in the juried fine art world, and he has been an avid gamer and designer for decades. The TCG is an extension of the story of his life and his imagination in art and gameplay. He is the owner, designer, and artist, and his desire is for every player to be immersed in a rich and fun world. That is the creator's dream.

Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid?
A: Magic the Gathering.

Q: What sets Rise apart from other TCGs?
A: The art and card quality is incredibly high. With regard to gameplay, Rise has the potential for fast inertia changes between turns. The stand up moments are there throughout the game until it is finished.

Q: How did you come up with the name Rise?
A: The Summoners in the game Level Up. You are Rising up the power ladder to access better and better Skills.

Q: How long have you been working on the game?
A: Over 10 years.

Q: What is the illustration/design process like?
A: Francois loves to draw and create new card ideas. He likes to do them together at the same time so the story of the art and the game mechanic are naturally cohesive from the start.

Q: What are your future plans for Rise?
A: Keep making new cards for players and collectors. Try to improve the quality and value for everyone during each set and not overprint.

Q: Will you be at any upcoming conventions?
A: Spookala in June 2023 and Comicon in September. Looking at Gaming conventions for 2024 such as Origins and GenCON.

Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to make their own TCG?
A: Go for it girlfriend! :)

Q: What inspired you to create a TCG? A: This came from a dream. I woke up from a nap and had dreamt of this fun TCG, reminded me of how much fun I had as a kid play card games. TCG Interview #90: Ward (Part 2)

I did a follow-up interview with Ward TCG, here are their answers to my questions! Q:  What’s new with Ward TCG since our previous interview? A: A lot has happened in the year since our last interview. Ward has hosted a dozen tournaments with great turnouts, lots of action, and many new players.    We have attended several conventions with the most recent being the HUGE Midwest gaming Classic in Milwaukee WI. The original actors from resident Evil 1 video game hung out at our booth for a while and were enamored with Ward.    We are in about 2 dozen stores, including a partnership with a Midwest convenience store chain “Luckey Seven”. They fell in love with Ward and have begun to spread it in their 37 stores across the Midwest.    We were invited to be on several interviews with ABC News. They also loved Ward and wanted to help promote an upcoming tournament we had in Minneapolis MN at that time. Being on Live TV was very nerve racking. We were also hos...
