TCG Interview #18: Rout

I spoke with the creators of Rout- here are their answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A:  ROUT is a competitive TCG designed from the ground up for high level tournament play. In ROUT, you choose a base, level up Skills and deploy cards from those Skills to destroy your opponent’s base! Q: What inspired you to create a TCG? A: Between the team members we have about 50 years of TCG play in tournaments and casually, and we found a few things present in most TCGs to be unnecessary and began toying with making it better. Once a few cards were designed it just took off from there! Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: Pokémon was the first for most of us, then MTG, YGO, and Hearthstone to follow. All great games! Q: What sets Rout apart from other games? A: The easiest answer is the Skills and Combat systems. The Skills system replaces traditional ‘mana’ systems with a 0 variance option allowing you to gain a guaranteed point every turn in the S

TCG Interview #17: Gem Blenders

I spoke with Steve Sekula, the creator of Gem Blenders- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game!  A: Gem Blenders is a revolutionary lo-fi TCG, where you mix & match gems, explore blend synergies, and command your heroes to outwit your opponent!  Each player begins with a team of four heroes. Over the course of the game, you’ll equip these heroes with combinations of gems in order to use transformations called blends. Every blend has a recipe that requires a specific combination of 2–5 different gem types. Your goal is to blend your heroes and position them to get your opponent’s HP down to 0.     Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG?  A: I grew up playing Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, and also spent a bunch of time creating my own homemade TCGs (which I show off on the Gem Blenders YouTube channel). It felt natural to begin working on another card game project.  My passion for developing game mechanics has led me to create homemade board g

TCG Interview #16: Guardians of Dreamstate

I spoke with the creator of Guardians of Dreamstate- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Guardians of Dreamstate TCG is a same turn fast paced card game.  Both players take each phase of the turn at the same time, this always makes each moment of the battle intense! Q: What inspired you to create a TCG? A: Me and my grandmother used to play war, the game where you split the 52 card deck then compare the number to see who wins.  So at age 16 I started this game in memory of when we played war.  Even though Guardians of Dreamstate TCG isn't really much like war at all now, it still gives me fond memories everytime I play  Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: Started with Pokemon, then I went really big into magic the gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh.  I've always been a fan of tcgs, I even have some other tcgs like digimon, and zatch bell Q: What sets Guardians of Dreamstate apart from other TCGs? A: So don't get me wrong, I

TCG Interview #15: Culinary Combat & Power Beasts

I spoke with the creator of Culinary Combat and Power Beasts- here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card games! A: Culinary Combat is a Trading card game that features anthropomorphic food characters battling each other for victory. The foods feature a variety of weapons, abilities, powers, strengths, armor, clothes, expressions, etc. The one thing they all have in common is that they are blood (or in this case, condiment) thirsty and ready for battle Power Beasts TCG is about creatures created from the aftermath of the end of the universe. After the universe ended and a new one formed (I don’t know exactly how to explain how I new one formed yet), 6 meteors collided to create a planet. The power of each meteor created life, in the form of Power Beasts. They formed clans based on their abilities and which specific meteor each came from, but some will ally with each other too. Their goal is to have their tribes be victorious in combat Q: What inspir
