TCG Interview 53: Mana Source: Evolved

I spoke with  Blayne Dickerson, the creator of Mana Source: Evolved! Here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: You're a god. Your deck is Mortals or resources, as you choose. Divinities rest on Shrines, called forth to aid in combat. You have an Event pile to utilize throughout game play for further assistance. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: I have always been creating games and have many more to come. But I used to do Friday Night Magic (FNM) every week at a local comic shop. One particular night, I made it to the final four and was 'mana screwed' in two games back-to-back. This is a common occurrence in MTG, but twice is pretty bad luck. Anyway, instead of my opponent telling me "tough break" or "that sucks," he said, "If you don't like it, make your own game." So, I did. Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: I played Magic: the Gathering, YuGiOh, and Pokemon. I collec

TCG Interview# 52: Guidance Card Labyrinth Dice

I spoke with the creator of Guidance Card Labyrinth Dice! Here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Guidance Card Labyrinth Dice, or simply “Labyrinth Dice”, is a trading card game where you send creatures to navigate through a maze and battle fearsome creatures summoned by your opponent! Make your opponent's life reach 0 or make your opponent run out of cards to draw from their deck to win! If your creatures are ever stuck in a corner by your opponent’s creatures, you can roll a six-sided die to increase its strength by the result and have a chance of winning the many battles ahead. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: I love watching card battle anime as well as reading manga of the same genre. Back in high school I hung out with a few friends, one of which was my neighbor, in the school cafeteria during lunch break to play D&D and other roleplaying games. Back then I had one idea for a card game that was called Zodiac Inca

I spoke with the creator of Astronomica! Here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Astronomica is a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Trading Card Game, inspired by creature battling games like Cardfight! Vanguard and MTG. The game is sent the in the Elysian Spiral, a galaxy flung into an all out war between many different factions.  Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: I loved playing card games as a kid; I think everyone grew up collecting pokemon cards, and my hobby then jumped into playing Yu-Gi-Oh in tournaments, and playing Hearthstone casually. I think when it came to making my own game though, I was most inspired by the early wave of Youtube indie TCG creators; people like Chaos Galaxy and Wrath of Cores.  Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: The main game I played as a kid was definitely Yu-Gi-Oh. I hopped in around the start of the third generation (5D’s). Yu-Gi-Oh has definitely affected the type of card games I like. It was f

TCG Interview #50: Animal Kingdom

I spoke with the creator of Animal Kingdom! Here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A:  Animal   Kingdom  TCG is a city-building card game in which you become the mayor of a fantastical city in a world populated by anthropomorphic  animals , robots, aliens, and more! Instead of taking on the role of a mighty adventurer, we're flipping the script - you'll be running the city the heroes of the realm use as their base of operations! By expanding your city with weird and wonderful buildings, hiring diligent workers, playing cunning stratagems and more, you'll aim to make your city the most prosperous in all the land. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: A few years ago we were looking for a specific flavour of card game to play with a few friends, but nothing quite ticked all of the boxes. It was a simple concept to begin with: what if the player was the one in charge of running the 'city of adventure' full of quirky

A: Splatterkins is a family-friendly TCG based around artistic creations made of paint and ink. Each Player chooses a Visionary to play as, summoning Splatterkins to battle and protect the realm known as Tempera. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: I've always loved TCG growing up and half the time I didn't even know how to play, I just collected the cards because of the beautiful work selected for each one. In a way, it's like my own artistic journey and I'm thrilled to share it with the world. Q: What TCGs did you grow up playing as a kid? A: I played Magi Nation! Later on in life I learned how to play Magic the Gathering, Force of Will, and Yu-gi-oh. I didn't have many friends who play
