TCG Interview #91: Humanity: A Game of Civilizations

I spoke with the creator of Humanity: A Game of Civilizations, here are their answers to my questions! Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Well, the cards are based on the humanities, that is art, history, lore, philosophy, social sciences, all that. I threw in a little science and geography as well. The premise is that each player has a civilization card alongside their deck, and the players are taking on the roles of rival civilizations competing to see who will have a bigger impact on the future. So you will have gods and mythological creatures along side ancient rulers and great works of art. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: I was really fascinated by the idea of a game based on real things. At first I was thinking something science based, where cards would be planets or something like that. But that concept seemed too limited. Once I had the idea of focusing more on history and mythology, the ideas for cards wouldn’t stop coming. I am hoping the game gets ...

TCG Interview #90: Ward (Part 2)

I did a follow-up interview with Ward TCG, here are their answers to my questions! Q:  What’s new with Ward TCG since our previous interview? A: A lot has happened in the year since our last interview. Ward has hosted a dozen tournaments with great turnouts, lots of action, and many new players.    We have attended several conventions with the most recent being the HUGE Midwest gaming Classic in Milwaukee WI. The original actors from resident Evil 1 video game hung out at our booth for a while and were enamored with Ward.    We are in about 2 dozen stores, including a partnership with a Midwest convenience store chain “Luckey Seven”. They fell in love with Ward and have begun to spread it in their 37 stores across the Midwest.    We were invited to be on several interviews with ABC News. They also loved Ward and wanted to help promote an upcoming tournament we had in Minneapolis MN at that time. Being on Live TV was very nerve racking. We were also hos...

TCG Interview #89: Champions of the Overthere

I spoke with the creator of Champions of the  Overthere! Here are his answers to my questions: Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: Champions of the Overthere (CoTO) is a fun and easy TCG that we think anyone can pick up and play. We didn’t overcomplicate it with a million symbols and effects. It’s a 2 player (though we do envision multiple play modes) game, where you will use equipment and abilities that synergize with champion (character) cards to try to defeat the other in battle. Utilize traps and other powerful effects from the champion cards as well to boost your attack, defense and utility.  Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A: Tabletop games like D&D. Originally, CoTO was an in-game card game for my D&D campaign, similar to Gwent in “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”, where the players could collect past characters and NPCs to battle against others for gold and other rewards. However, it just kept growing, and soon we realized what amazing char...

I spoke with Rob Eames, the creator of Disc Cards- h ere are his answers to my questions!  Q: Please describe your trading card game! A: I have always thought of it as a child of Magic: the Gathering and Yahtzee lineage, with Disc Golf  serving as the Midwife. That’s the glib answer, the serious one is this:  Disc Cards is a Trading Card Game, to be sold in Specialty Game Shops and especially Disc Golf Pro  Shops.  Players have a Deck of 60 cards, with no more than 3 of the same Disc Side allowed, and no more  than 3 of the same Location Side allowed. Each player has three 6-sided dice, and they use their dice  rolls and Disc Cards to match the obstacles along their chosen Route (players can choose to go for a  Par, a Birdie, or an Ace: a hole in one). You can play Disc Cards with a Group or Solo, you can decide to play high risk/reward or low-risk conservative, you can choose to help your opponents or you can choose to hinder your opponents:...

This is all done through the use of a combination of warriors, helpers, quarks, artifacts, & dimensions.Gateway also focuses on positioning which adds an extra layer of strategy, while keeping simplicity. Q: What inspired you to create your own TCG? A:  It all started during a summer break. My brother and I randomly decided to draw up some cards and play with them. A: We played a lot of Yu-Gi-oh! And Cardfight Vanguard while growing up. After that I dabbled into...
